Laser Hair Removal FAQ
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment (melanin) within the hair follicle. The heat generated helps disable the follicle’s ability to produce new hair, resulting in long-term hair reduction while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.
⸻
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, not permanent hair removal. Following a complete course of treatments, most people experience a significant reduction in hair growth. Occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended to maintain your results over time.
⸻
How many treatments will I need?
A course of 6–12 treatments is generally recommended to achieve the best possible results. The exact number of treatments will vary depending on your hair colour, skin type, hormones, and individual hair growth cycle.
During your consultation, we’ll assess your skin and hair before recommending an individual treatment plan tailored to your needs.
⸻
Is laser hair removal painful?
Most clients find diode laser hair removal to be a comfortable treatment. Our advanced diode laser features integrated cooling technology, helping to keep the skin comfortable throughout your treatment. Many clients describe the sensation as feeling warm on the skin.
Some areas of the body may feel more sensitive than others, but treatment is generally well tolerated and settings are tailored to your skin, hair and comfort while maintaining effective results.
⸻
Does laser hair removal work on all hair colours?
Laser hair removal is most effective on dark hair, as the laser targets pigment within the hair follicle.
Blonde, grey, white and many red hairs contain little or no pigment, making them less responsive to treatment. During your consultation, we’ll assess your hair and provide honest advice about the results you can expect.
⸻
Can all skin types be treated?
Our advanced diode laser is suitable for a wide range of skin types. Before commencing treatment, we’ll complete a thorough consultation to assess your skin, hair and medical history to ensure laser hair removal is appropriate for you.
⸻
How should I prepare for my appointment?
To achieve the best possible results, we recommend:
-
Shaving the treatment area 12–24 hours before your appointment.
-
Avoiding waxing, plucking or epilating for at least four weeks prior to treatment.
-
Avoiding excessive sun exposure and fake tan before your appointment.
-
Arriving with clean skin free from moisturiser, deodorant or makeup on the treatment area.
We’ll provide detailed pre-treatment instructions before your first appointment.
⸻
What should I do after my treatment?
Following your treatment, we recommend avoiding excessive heat, vigorous exercise and direct sun exposure for a short period. It’s also important to protect treated areas with a broad-spectrum sunscreen when exposed to the sun.
Your therapist will provide personalised aftercare advice based on your treatment.
⸻
Is there any downtime?
There is little to no downtime following laser hair removal. Mild redness or warmth may occur immediately after treatment and usually settles within a few hours.
Most clients return to their normal daily activities straight away.
